A good stopping place

Sometimes it's a matter of timing. The pics that did not upload originally, have since been uploaded onto the site and I think it's in a good place right now. I still need to scan my personal work, but the stuff I've done for others is up and arranged in a good way.

I'm still not 100% happy with the site though, and a lot of that is because of the URL. That and the whole thing where it just doesn't have the features that I want. Still, it's free space and it will serve until I can get hosting. Sending people links will do until I can get a URL I can actually remember.

The scanning will most likely start at the end of the week. I'm not sure how much I can get done, but I can start at least. At the moment I'm thinking in terms of how I'm going to get all this arranged. I have a different agenda with my personal stuff so I may lay out the second page differently, but I'm not sure yet. I need to see how the scans turn out and what I decide to change, if I change anything. What I can picture is me getting the paintings scanned and then playing with them in Photo Shop. It's something I've always wanted to do so we'll see how creative I get next week.

Website Building

There's page one done. There are some things missing, but this is enough for now. The next step is to get my personal work up on page two, and then I can leave this for a bit while I look into hosting.

I had hoped that I could leave this standing as my main site, but I think proper hosting has to happen for a couple of reasons. The first is that I was unable to upload everything I want up there. I'm not sure why, but so far there are two images missing. I'll try again another time, but it's kind of irritating.

Anyway, that's one of them over on the left. It's the cover of the 2006 Summer Bio Book for the ICSC's summer programming. The sample of one of the pages is up on the website. Maybe it's not that big a deal for it to not be up on the site, but it bugs me that it's not.

Besides, what I was hoping for was to have all the images up in a gallery that folks could click to enter so you could see full size if you wanted to. On a properly hosted site I'll be able to add one very easily.

To the right, is the other missing image which I had wanted for page two. It's a personal piece called "Generations, 2002" and is one of my portfolio pieces.

The other reason I want proper hosting is the domain. Right now the URL of my page is nearly impossible to remember and my name isn't part of it. Neither of those things are positives from a marketing perspective. So the next step has to be host-shopping.

At least my stuff is up, which is more than I could say a month ago. And it will serve for the time being.
